Decent place to study, quiet spaces and large open areas to meet up with friends. Can get packed during finals week. Staff are helpful enough and plenty of sources for papers and projects. And no, it's not sinking because of the books....
Do not seek employment with this institution unless you enjoy the practice sadomasochistism.I was employed by UK Libraries for a agonizing 30 months most recently assigned in the Science & Engineering branch as a Senior Technician. UK Libraries is run as if it was a dysfunctional Nazi Stalag managed by Abbott & Costello. I never worked nor probably will work for such a hostile, discriminating, unprofessional, mismanaged place of work. The operations and conduct of the libraries as well as all the other departments across campus are not overseen by the University. The university has standard polices and practices of its own;however the university's policies enables it's various departments to form their own polices and allow the supervisors to make up "ad hoc" terms & conditions of employment for the individual employee with no oversight whatever nor regard for university policies, state and federal statues. My supervisor would call me unexpectedly or "ambush" me by calling me to a meeting without a agenda;force me to sign a confession or a corrective action document with me prior discussion whatsoever. These accusations against me were always based on convoluted lies,so convoluted that my supervisor and multiple levels of managers would sit in on these meetings to shield my supervisor from her own lies.E.g. I got corrective actions for putting spine labels on books, one time I got a corrective action for saying "anal retentive" in the presence of a co-worker with no prior discussion.I would attend these meetings along with 3-4 other managers besides my boss for the most trivial miniscule matters such as spine labels.(I recorded these meetings)So when your supervisor harasses and bullies you to force to you to comply to their "ad hoc" terms & conditions.I endured a horrendous six month employee improvement plan where I received harsh scrutiny and forced to agree to a venomous so called improvement plan.I turned to the administrative departments for help such as Employee Relations, Office of Institutional Equity & Employment even the Dean all of them denied accountability and refused to investigate my claim.Employee Relations tells you they do not investigate misconduct. If you go to OIEE,OIEE will only listen to your "whistle blower" claim. They'll only investigate your claim if it falls under certain criteria.Other than that OIEE serves the best interest of the university, not the individual employee. There's no union to go to for advocacy. You're on your own.Employee relations will not represent on your behalf either. So then you turn to the library administration, the library administrators plea ignorance in fear of rocking the boat. The library administrators are likely in bed with your supervisor.Expect nothing from the Dean nor Associate Deans. UK Libraries has no leaders or rather leadership whatsoever. So instead I sought help outside of the university by hiring the services of a local labor attorney Edward Dove. Mr. Dove said "UK is a bad, bad employer". Mr. Dove sent a communique to the VP of OIEE.The VP of OIEE simply denied any accountability and oversight. OIEE took no action whatsoever to resolve my hostile situation.Instead OIEE leaked information of my investigation to my supervisor which only intensified the situation.UK has a unusually high turn over rate. However, I sought help too late. I was eventually pressured to resign and ousted out immediately upon submitting my resignation. UK Libraries managed nevertheless by "gangsters.Gangsters who a given immunity due to their faculty status. This is where UK discriminates.Faculty are given immunity from the university's administration. Faculty can treat staff any which way they want with no regard to the law. This is why I refer to the administration as "gangsters". The only possible solution to my hostile situation was to resign. Take my advice. Do not work nor seek studies from these pungent people (UK).These people (UK) will strip you of your self confidence, personality and dignity. They are brutal fascist Nazis who use gestapo like tactics to intimidate you.
But it's nice when they are open.
I work 40 hours a week and take 18 credit hours. Having access to a quiet place to study is certainly something that any University should feel obligated to supply. But they don't. They will save their 200.00 a week on electric and give each other high fives.
This Library is open 24/7. Visitors are welcome before 5PM. I really dont Care about architecture Of libraries because i go to libraries around The World for Their unique materials. The Library is comfortable and there is adequate natural lighting. They have plenty Of agriculture literature and thesis papers and volumes Of government related publikations which seemed boring. So i guess i largely stück with my middle grade fiction writing projects.
It would be five stars. I pay 6300 dollars per semester, and the library is closed Friday and Saturday night. I know most don't need the library on these nights, but plenty of people get booted while they are working.
Willy T is an amazing library and I highly encourage students in Lexington to take full advantage of it. There are countless resources, helpful staff, completely quiet sections, and not to mention, it is a beautiful building. I was so spoiled at Uk because of this library. I am getting my masters at a different university in another city, and I wish more than anything that I had the Willy T library-- it would make my life a lot easier!
