Just rented a trailer for a day and was very impressed with the service. The young man who hooked up the trailer and then checked me in when I returned was top notch. What a great employee. In the rain he was quick and courteous and thanked me multiple times for my business. I will return.
But the front desk receptionist was curt when I picked it up, and seemed offended I wasn't as familiar with the process as her. The condescension made me uncomfortable and I stopped considering other purchases, or questions I had, and focused on leaving with my rental quickly.
This review is for the Custom Trailer Hitch installation service. The service was performed some time back however with a recent use my disappointment all came back.
The process of getting my rental and dropping it off was pretty easy. The guy who took my rental back at the end and checked it over was polite. Overall the experience was fine, and the rental was quality equipment.
I have since replaced the one bolt so it now pulls up against the frame. Also, I've drilled through the stripped nut in the frame and placed a nut and bolt from the top of the frame down and into the hitch.
Custom Hitch should not be in the company's name if they can't customize an installation. Maybe your experience will be different- if everything is by the book.
When I returned and looked in the storage compartment there was about four foot of cable; this was for the lights of course. Not sure why there wasn't a more out of the way place to store this and I wasn't thrilled to have the hatch open and close on the cable when the hitch was in use.
When the manager came out to hear my concerns he stood on the hitch and jumped up and down. "It's fine." He explained that the vans bolt hole was stripped and there wasn't anything they could do. I asked about about a tap- "nothing we can do". A spot weld - "nothing we can do."
I drove out of the lot and soon noticed a rattle. It was the hitch rubbing on the exhaust pipe near the end. Frustrated with "nothing we can do" - I drove to the Exhaust Pros on Winchester Rd and they snipped the end at no charge.
RANDOM PEOPLE HANG OUT IN PARKING LOT LOOKING IN CAR WINDOWS TO STEAL THINGS. SHADY AREA BEWARE!! So as I stood in front of my car in the parking lot on my phone making sure my reservation was ready I noticed two black guys looking in my car windows right in front of me. When I confronted them they said "Your...ugh leaving your...ugh kids in the car"? I told them yes because its hot and I want them in the AC. I then told him to mind his own business and he mutters something. About 10 minutes go by and a cop pulls in. First thing the cop says is "Look these guys are a constant issue they even told me you were standing in front of your car. I mentioned they were looking in my windows probably to steal something and I caught them he agreed. The cop ran them off. Come to find out the guys are FRIENDS of the manager and hang out in the parking lot causing trouble regularly! As I told the front desk clerk to cancel my reservation she said "Well I've told him (The Manager) that they are always causing trouble but he doesn't do anything". Also reported to Uhaul corporate.
One bolt was missing from the installation all together. Leaving me with three - one of which was described above.
I looked under the van and one bolt while tight did not tighten against the frame. The washer was easily turned by hand as it was loose.
