Great people - so helpful. We learned a lot and got an awesome deal on a bike for our daughter as well. So glad for this place.
Awesome community, I only wish they were open more often.
I recommend looking up the Broken Spoke I really do and while you're there even if you don't get anything worked on make a donation to them please. In my opinion it's the best bike shop in Lexington and I highly recommend anybody go in there they're a great bunch of people don't judge him based on face value of the shop. It may not be as glamorous as the others but they have a heart and in my opinion when helping people that is what matters most.
The volunteer mechanics show you how your bike actually works, what went wrong, how to fix it (partially), and then they ask you to try to do the other half based on what they've showed you. I got a lesson on how to fix and maintain my bike, a kickstand, a safety light, and a new cable; and my bill? $14. Thanks SO much to Steve (my cycle-sensei!) and everyone there for being anything but intimidating. Would recommend this place to ANYONE, expert or beginner, for excellent and affordable service.
I volunteer here, and couldn't be happier with this store. It is a great place to find an inexpensive used bicycle for reliable transportation. Repairs are done right as you the bike owner get involved with the repair. This is NOT a shop where you can drop off your bike for repairs. We are a learning facility. But if you have a curious mind, a good attitude, and some time to spare, this is a great place to buy a bike, fix your bike, and make some new friends.
When I heard about Broke Spoke, I thought it was such a good idea, but I was admittedly a little intimidated to actually go in. I have a used Trek and know absolutely nothing about maintaining it. But as soon as I walked in, I knew I had come to the right place! This was the least intimidating environment--everyone was so nice and helpful, and they really know their stuff.
This place is off the beaten path but worth looking for. Staff very forthcoming with assistance, very helpful, polite beyond belief, there is no stupid question with these people, I could go on forever but I'm going to leave the rest up for you guys to see.
If you need help with questions about your bike and they overflow with knowledge on bikes they're willing to help you as for myself I am completely inert when it comes to knowing as much as I need to know about fixing my own bike but they'll help you no answer any question and Ella sister wherever they can.
