I've been a customer of theirs for about 20 years now. They have always been there to help me when I need help with my fish, even when I've been low on money. I am on a fixed income and they know that. When I'm low on funds and need supplies they will let me get them early and pay for them when I get my check. That is just an example of their customer loyalty. Purchase your pet supplies here and help a locally-owned business. Good people....
One thing you have to remember is this is a small family run store. If they are busy you might have to wait until they finish with other customers before they can assist you. They always do their best to help everybody as quickly as possible but if you are rude and impatient you might get some of the same back. But if you are respectful to the other customers and staff you will get nothing but friendly service.
Overall I didn't find the family to be rude at all, just excited to have a customer and all of them wanted to help me any way they could. 5/5 for me.
Wouldn’t let us in the door on a Saturday at 1PM because they were ‘short staffed’. Whatever the heck that means... turned 5 people away at the door. Um, you’re either open or closed. Won’t waste my time anymore.
My experience at this store was fantastic. Walking in, I was greeted by the owner's son, who asked if he could help me find anything. I saw the fish in the back so I told him I knew where to go, and I headed to the back. When I got there I was greeted by a guy at a computer, who immediately dropped what he was doing to show me around. I really wanted to gawk at the fish, because I love fish, but I found myself buying a plant from a large, very good looking array of plants in a tank on the side.
As I was there the owner and I made small talk about fish and breeding, etc, and he said he deals with local breeders, which is a plus.
Animal House is a fantastic small animal pet store! The owners are very helpful and knowledgeable, as well as kind and attentive to your questions. We recently purchased our Chinchilla there along with all of her needed supplies. The process was simple, and we have been so pleased. I highly recommend Animal House Pets!
Also as a local small business I would rather pay a few dollars more to help the local economy than spend my money to make the corporate fat cats richer. However their prices are very competitive with the chain stores. The canister filer I bought was within a dollar of PetSmart.
No matter how much you trust your local fish supplier, how well they keep their fish, etc. People need to realize that, with zero exceptions, you should quarantine your fish before adding them to your established community. This prevents disease, shock, or other issues.
He knew the species of plants, knew their light/CO2 requirements, and gave some care tips when I inquired about my other plants that aren't doing so well. Then I went to look at the fish and boy, this place has a great selection of tropical fish. Unlike what some of the other reviews say, I saw no dead fish. At all. They all looked healthy, actually. Save for one or two that looked a little secluded and swam towards the top of the tank, all the fish looked bright, colorful, and we'll kept. Each tank was planted, had light, and filtration.
This was my go to store for fish and supplies 20 yrs ago when I had a 90 gallon aquarium. Always got good service and advice from the people there. I've seen more dead or sick fish in 1 trip to the chain pet stores than I've ever seen here. I have never seen any sick or dead fish in the tanks. When I moved I never set up my aquarium and ended up selling it. I have recently gotten back into the hobby with two 65 gallon tanks. This place is still awesome. In the 20yrs I have dealt with them I have never lost a fish. They were very helpful in doing my first ammonia cycle and getting the new tanks ready for the more delicate fish I wanted. Setting up a semi aggressive cichlid type tank and a more peaceful tropical tank, they are extremely knowledgeable about what fish make good tank mates. Also just as important in what order you should add the fish so that they all get along. With my old tank if I didn't do my maintenance and a fish got sick. They knew how to help me get everything healthy again Try getting that knowledge and experience from the high school kid at the chain store.
